Around the area
Our local region of East Gippsland and the Riviera has been a favourite of Melburnians for over 100 years. There is a rich history of paddle steamers, classic wooden boats, farming and holiday makers in this region. The area is a bird watchers paradise. Along with the world famous silt jetties nestled alongside the Mitchell River, this is a must to visit at sunset for bird watchers, fishermen and photographers.
Raymond Island is a delight, to hop on the vehicle and passenger ferry and spot the prolific koala population. The island has board walks that allow accessibility to pushers and wheelchairs alike. The nearby towns of Lakes Entrance, Bruthen and Buchan make a wonderful day trip. The Buchan Caves have been amazing visitors for over 100 years. We have an abundance of wineries, galleries, historical trestle bridges and markets that are sure to entertain and entrance.
Boats are available to hire without a licence from local boat hire. Bring your bikes and kayaks and enjoy the local tracks and lakes area. There is something for everyone, and you can enjoy the lakes and local wildlife with many echidnas, koalas and kangaroos in the area.
